What is this about?

Making "unlikely" connections between technology, fashion, & culture.

About Me

I believe in cultivating a diverse & equitable product culture in order to build products that serve everyone. I draw from a wide range of personal life experiences to make connections between people, places, things, and ideas.

A colleague once referred to me as Thomas Edison meets Anna Wintour. I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design where I studied Apparel Design & Art History. Since 2014, I have been working on tech products from wearable robotics for military use to Google Maps.

My work has been featured on Vogue, Adweek, BuzzFeed, Glossy, IBTimes, Machine Design, and more.

No Water, No Moon

The name of this newsletter comes from a Zen Koan that I’ve come back to many times. Over the years, I’ve struggled to give meaning to the connections between different aspects of my life, trying to pull together narratives to give it all order & logic that was never really necessary.

When the nun Chiyono studied Zen under Bukko of Engaku she was unable to attain the fruits of meditation for a long time.

At last one moonlit night she was carrying water in an old pail bound with bamboo. The bamboo broke and the bottom fell out of the pail, and at that moment Chiyono was set free!

In commemoration, she wrote a poem:

In this way and that I tried to save the old pail
Since the bamboo strip was weakening and about to break
Until at last the bottom fell out.
No more water in the pail!
No more moon in the water!
